Washington Metro Dachtoberfest Foundation (WMDF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, raises AWARENESS and EDUCATES dog owners about serious veterinary health issues so they can anticipate the financial commitment of pet ownership, become proactive in their pet’s care, and understand the essential importance of preventive care making pet owners better health ADVOCATES for their pets.

Washington Metro DachtoberFest Foundation raises awareness of various health issues that dachshunds and other long and low breeds face to educate pet owners about preventative care and handling of their pets to minimize health risks, and to raise awareness that there are always alternatives to euthanasia. A pet owner’s ability to recognize symptoms of potential life threatening health issues such as Intervertebral Disc Disease*, seizure and epilepsy, obesity, Cushing’s disease, dental disease and behavioral matters can lead to earlier intervention and veterinary care. Increased knowledge and proactivity in a pets health results in healthier and happier pets, opens alternatives to euthanasia and reduces the number of dogs that are surrendered as a result of health related issues.

There is nothing better than wiener dog races and the WMDF Dachshund Dash is no exception. Some racing wieners speed off, other doxies decide it is a social hour and hang around the starting gate mingling with the other racers oblivious to their owners calling out their names at the other end of the track, and still other doxies just mill around looking confused not sure what they are supposed to do. But heck, that's what makes the Dachshund Dash so much fun. You never know what to expect. Whether your doxie is a seasoned runner or a novice, wiener races never get boring.



Blessing of the Animals



The blessing of each animal, by name, means that health, healing and life are being mediated from God for the benefit of the animal in its relationship with its human partners.

Woofminster Dog Show



Is an “unofficial” but highly regarded event to showcase everything that is so special about your dachshunds and dachshund-wannabes (all other breeds) regardless of their origin. Pure breeds, mixes, rescues, you name it, you’re in! First place winners of each category will return for best in show



2025 Dachtoberfest



Dachtoberfest is now in Richmond, Virginia





While WMDF no longer hosts WMDachtoberFest, Dachshund Enlightenment Foundation has taken over the reins and is now hosting the RVA Dachtoberfest in Richmond, Virginia. RVA Dachtoberfest is a one-day family and dog friendly event filled with dachshund themed fun for everyone including wiener dog races, a costume contest, mini contests such as longest doxie and shortest doxie, guest speakers, demonstrations, dog centric vendors, raffles, a silent auction and so much more!
